I'm Cuban-American and have lived most of my life near five cities: Miami, St. Louis, Beijing, Los Angeles, and Austin. I love each one of them. I like drinking coffee, especially from Ethiopia. I also like peaty Scotch. I build things with wood and have done a fair bit of construction. Stephani del Rio is my best friend, and we have four wonderful kids (pictured below) and two pets--Stuart the guinea pig and Alvin the labradoodle. I play a lot of music (guitar) and am conspiring to have a family band. We have lots of instruments around the house and also many books. Two highlights from a typical year in the del Rio family include (i) a road trip to my hometown of Miami where we visit family, eat guava pastries, and keep a running list of all the birds, reptiles, and marine life that we see and (ii) a Thanksgiving camping trip where we celebrate the holiday with good friends and good food under glorious stars. We are rethinking these traditions now that we live in the Pacific Northwest. Our National Park Passport is slowly but surely filling up with stamps. Our Kia Sedona has made it's way from LA to DC to Key West to Whidbey Island. Thanks to Drive to Survive, Stephani and I are now avid F1 fans. We are also big fans of Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and large trees.
