Teaching
One goal of my teaching is to help students know the value of philosophical wonder. In each course, I emphasize that wondering about philosophical questions is a uniquely human joy and helps us develop analytical skills that are useful across disciplines and vocations. Another goal of my teaching is to inspire students to cultivate virtue. Philosophy is not only an attempt to answer “Great Questions” but also a way of life devoted to the pursuit of wisdom. This way of life involves the development of the character traits that help us live life well--what the ancients called the virtues. Together, philosophical wonder and the pursuit of wisdom help students flourish as humans and succeed at accomplishing their goals, inside or outside the academy.
